Designed as an alternative to Nintendo’s own original control pad, the MAX was one of the first ergonomic control pads built. The design is similar to the original Genesis control pad from Sega and meant to fit comfortably in the hand. The controller also had a unique analog-esque 360-degree directional pad (Nintendo called it “cycloid”). This classic controller pad is hard wired to a rare Philips alarm clock, prism Shaped and semi-transparent red plastic with few “designer” features like the alarm off button. Both devices, although technologically challenging, failed to succeed in the mass market. They belong to the rarity products subculture which is also interesting
