Scalextric is a major international brand of slot car racing, invented Mr B. "Freddie" Francis and available form 1957. Scalextric is currently owned by Hornby. Slot car racing was a popular trend in the 1960s, with sales reaching $500 million annually, including 3,000 public courses in the United States alone. The trend sputtered out by the start of the 1970s as amateurs felt squeezed out at races and stayed home.
